An important role
What to Wear for a Photoshoot in Venice
Planning a photoshoot in Venice is about much more than choosing a beautiful location. The clothes you wear play an important role in creating timeless portraits that you’ll enjoy for years to come.
One of the first questions my clients ask is, “What should I wear?”
My answer is always the same: wear something that feels like you.
As a Venice photographer, I don’t want you to look like a model wearing someone else’s style. I want your personality to be the focus of every photograph.
Venice is unlike any other city in the world. Its soft reflections, historic buildings, quiet canals and changing light create a unique atmosphere. Choosing the right outfit helps you become part of that scene rather than competing with it.

Choose timeless colours
Neutral colours almost always work best.
Cream, beige, white, navy blue, olive green, grey and black blend beautifully with Venice’s architecture and allow your face and emotions to remain the centre of attention.
Large logos, bright neon colours and busy patterns can easily distract from the portrait. Simplicity usually creates the most elegant and lasting photographs.
Natural fabrics such as linen, cotton and wool also photograph beautifully because they add texture without overwhelming the image.
Dress for the season
Every season offers a different Venice.
Spring is perfect for soft colours and flowing fabrics.
Summer calls for lightweight clothing that keeps you comfortable while walking through the city’s streets and bridges.
Autumn is one of my favourite times for a Venice photoshoot. Warm colours, elegant coats and scarves create depth and atmosphere that perfectly match the city’s mood.
Winter brings dramatic light, misty mornings and a quieter Venice. Long coats, knitwear and subtle accessories often create wonderfully cinematic portraits.
Coordinating outfits for couples
If you’re planning a couple’s photoshoot, there’s no need to wear matching clothes.
Instead, choose colours that complement each other while keeping your own personal style. Coordinated outfits always look more natural than identical ones.
Comfortable shoes matter
Venice is a city made for walking.
We’ll cross bridges, explore narrow streets and discover hidden corners away from the crowds. Comfortable shoes will help you enjoy the experience. If you’d like to wear elegant heels for part of the session, you can always bring them along and change when we reach the perfect location.
Small details make a big difference
A stylish coat, a scarf, a hat or even an elegant umbrella can add personality to your photo session in Venice without taking attention away from you.
The best accessories are the ones that feel natural and tell something about who you are.
Marco’s Tip
After photographing many people over the years, I’ve learned one simple lesson.
The best outfit is the one you stop thinking about after the first few minutes.
When you forget about your clothes, stop worrying about posing and simply enjoy walking through Venice, something changes. Your expressions become genuine, your movements more natural, and your portraits begin to tell your real story.
Beautiful photographs are never about perfect clothes.
They’re about authentic moments.
Final thoughts
Every person is different, and every photoshoot in Venice is carefully planned around the individual.
Before every session, I help my clients choose outfits that suit the season, the locations and the style they’re looking for. My goal isn’t simply to create beautiful pictures—it’s to create portraits that still feel authentic many years from now.
If you’re planning a trip to Venice and would like a relaxed, artistic photography experience, I’ll be happy to help you prepare every detail before we meet.
