Artistic photography in Venice

There is another side of Venice that most visitors never truly see.

Not the crowded tourist postcards or the endless social media images repeated every day. But a quieter Venice made of fog, reflections, empty streets and fading light. A city suspended somewhere between beauty and melancholy.

This is where my photography begins.

Through Underwater City, I try to create portraits that feel emotional, cinematic and deeply human. Images that go beyond appearance and move closer to atmosphere, memory and identity.

For me, portrait photography is not about perfection.

It is about presence.

Every face contains hidden emotions, contradictions and stories that cannot always be explained with words. Photography becomes a way to reveal fragments of those invisible emotions, even for a brief moment.

Contemporary Portraiture Beyond Perfection

Modern photography is changing.

People are becoming tired of images created only to look perfect online. Contemporary portrait photography is moving toward something more authentic — photographs that feel real, intimate and emotionally imperfect.

A blurred movement.
A harsh shadow.
A distant look.
Silence inside the frame.

These elements often create stronger emotional impact than technical perfection.

In my work, I frequently combine natural light with subtle flash, strong black and white contrasts and cinematic compositions. The goal is never to create a flawless image, but an honest one.

Venice as an Emotional Landscape

Venice is not simply a backdrop for photography.

It becomes part of the portrait itself.

The humidity on old walls, reflections on the canals, winter fog and the silence of the lagoon at night transform the city into an emotional space. A place where reality sometimes feels unreal.

This atmosphere strongly influences projects like Underwater City Project, where Venice appears submerged, abandoned and dreamlike — almost disappearing into water and memory.

The same feeling often enters my portrait work: photographs that seem suspended between dream and reality.

Photography Influenced by Contemporary Art

Living and working near the Venice Biennale inevitably changes the way you observe images.

Contemporary art teaches us that a photograph does not always need to explain everything. Sometimes mystery, discomfort and emotional tension create stronger connections than clarity.

A portrait can feel elegant and unsettling at the same time.

It can reveal vulnerability instead of confidence.
Absence instead of performance.
Silence instead of noise.

This is the direction many contemporary photographers are exploring today: creating images that are emotionally remembered rather than quickly consumed.

A Different Photography Experience in Venice

Every photoshoot becomes a slow visual journey through the city.

Walking without rushing.
Following the light.
Waiting for silence.

Whether it is an artistic portrait, a personal project or a couple session, the purpose remains the same: creating timeless photographs with emotional depth and cinematic atmosphere.

Because the most powerful images are rarely the most perfect ones.

They are the photographs that continue to stay with you long after you stop looking at them.
